Top Attractions For Bunbury
Koombana Bay Dolphins
- Wild dolphins regularly visit the calm waters of Koombana Bay where visitors can encounter these inquisitive creatures in a special interaction zone found in front of the Dolphin Discovery Centre. Alternatively, take a dolphin cruise which departs from the Dolphin Discovery Centre. Cruises to experience and encounter the dolphins are also available in season.
Mangroves, Views and Birdlife
- Opposite the Dolphin Discovery Centre you will find another natural attraction in the Mangrove Boardwalk. The Mangroves are remnants of mangroves that grew 20,000 or more years ago when the climate was more tropical. They are the most southerly mangroves in Western Australia and are a favourite haunt of over 60 species of water bird. Take time to stroll along the edge of the Leschenault Inlet on the new boardwalk extension.
Donnybrook
- Just 20 minutes drive from Bunbury, Donnybrook was so named because five Irishmen who first saw it in 1842 thought it resembled Ireland with its rolling hills and gently flowing waterways. Best known for its apple and stone fruit orchards, working farms with show alpacas, arts and crafts and a growing wine industry. * Fruit Barn: choose your own fruit & vegetables from over 106 varieties. *Old Goldfields Orchard and Cider Factory: Donnybrook once had a gold rush at the Old Goldfields and its mine workings have been recreated in a splendid family setting. Gold panning is one of the activities on offer. Overgaards Orchard: pick your own fruit. *Browse through the antique and bric a brac shops open every day.
Balingup
- Just 20 minutes drive from Donnybrook is the historic village of Ballingup which nestles in the heart of the Blackwood River Valley and is surrounded by forests, winding rivers, rolling green hills, vineyards and lush orchards. *The Old Cheese Factory Centre: Balingup is famous for its arts and crafts centre and is the largest in Western Australia, featuring hundreds of Western Australian artists works and crafts.
Big Swamp Reserve and Boardwalk
- A great place for enjoying birds, with over 70 species to watch from the man made boardwalks and hides. It is the favoured breeding place for the black swan and whilst at the Big Swamp, visit Big Swamp Wildlife Park and be sure to photograph the White Kangaroo, one of only a few in Australia.
